The next Tech & Tonic for game dev event, at the Speakers’ Corner at OGR Torino, will focus on level design in roguelites, exploring how procedural design and modular system design can make a game potentially infinitely replayable without sacrificing quality, consistency, or engagement.
Our guest will be Antonio Giordano, a Level Designer & Game Designer active in the game development industry since 2018 and specialized in the roguelite genre, with a specific focus on designing flexible modular systems, creating varied gameplay experiences, and maintaining player engagement over time.
Through practical examples, the talk will dive into how to design layouts that can vary substantially without losing quality and consistency, how to effectively integrate loot mechanics into level design, and how to use dynamic architectural modules and additional gameplay components to increase run diversity. The session will also focus on defining and balancing procedural and semi-procedural rules, which are essential for creating interesting, well-balanced, and highly replayable levels.
