During the event, participants will play Pixel, a board game simulating the work of an astrophysicist researcher managing a research center and team to achieve scientific goals. Players will have the opportunity to observe the sky using ground-based telescopes or by booking satellite observations, but they will also face unforeseen challenges and limited resources that will test their organizational and decision-making skills. The ultimate goal of the game is to accumulate the highest scientific prestige by managing resources and tools effectively.
The game is intended for a maximum of 25 participants, starting from the age of 16. Each station can accommodate between 3 to 5 players, and the game lasts between 90 and 120 minutes.
Pixel - Picture (of) the Universe is a board game developed by INAF within the Game Science Research Center. During the event, participants will have the chance to immerse themselves in the world of scientific research, with a special focus on astrophysics. The goal of the game is to measure astrophysical observables with increasingly better resolutions. Players will manage a research center, design observational strategies using ground-based telescopes and satellites, enhance scientific instruments, publish papers, and lead their team of researchers. One of the key challenges in the game is acquiring financial resources to fund new projects. At the end of the event, the winner will be the one who has accumulated the most scientific prestige.
