On Monday, 28 September at 6.30 PM, Francesco Costa will be at OGR Torino's Sala Fucine to present his new book Come se ne esce, in which he once again turns his attention to the United States, starting from one of the most pressing questions of our time: how can a country move beyond a political and cultural crisis that seems to have become permanent?

According to Costa, Donald Trump's presidency is not the cause of this crisis, but rather the result of deeper transformations: a loss of trust in institutions, the difficulty democracies face in responding to people's needs, rising inequality, and a growing sense of insecurity and disorientation.

In search of possible ways forward, Costa travels across the United States, from California to Mississippi, meeting people and communities that are already experimenting with different solutions: addressing local problems, rethinking cities and communities, rebuilding bonds of trust, and putting work, industry and civic participation back at the heart of public life.

The event at OGR Torino will offer an opportunity to start from the stories collected in the book and broaden the discussion to the transformations reshaping American society, the vulnerabilities of contemporary democracies, and the new rules that might replace those that no longer seem to work.

FRANCESCO COSTA
Francesco Costa (Catania, 1984) is a journalist and editor-in-chief of the online newspaper «il Post». An expert on US politics, since 2015 he has run the journalism project «Da Costa a Costa», which began as one of Italy’s earliest podcasts and is now also a newsletter and a YouTube channel. Among other projects for «il Post», he created and hosted «Morning» for four years, a daily news podcast whose large following was covered by international media including the «New Yorker» and the «Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung». Since 2025, he has also hosted «Wilson», a weekly news and current affairs podcast. In 2022, he received Il Premiolino, one of Italy’s oldest and most prestigious journalism awards. Since 2024, he has also curated the Information section of the Turin International Book Fair and has been a regular guest on «Che tempo che fa» on Nove. His books published by Mondadori include Questa è l’America (2020), Una storia americana (2021), California (2022) and Frontiera (2024), which won the 60th edition of the Premio Estense, Italy’s leading literary award dedicated to journalism.

USEFUL INFORMATION

• Bookings can be made for one person only. Once the form has been completed, a “You're almost there!” screen will appear. An email will then be sent to the address provided, allowing you to confirm your booking.


• Your booking will only be valid once it has been confirmed.


• Once your booking has been confirmed, you will receive the QR code required for admission. Until you confirm your booking via the dedicated email, the place will remain available and can still be booked by someone else.


• If the booking is not confirmed in time, the place will be reassigned and you may be placed on the waiting list. We therefore recommend completing the entire process as soon as possible to avoid losing your place.


• Admission for ticket holders with a confirmed booking will be possible from 6 PM and is guaranteed until 6.30 PM. After this time, your place may be reassigned.


• Anyone on the waiting list may queue in a dedicated line. Holders of this type of ticket will be admitted only if, once all guests with confirmed bookings have entered, places are still available. Admission will be on a first come, first served basis.
