After 12 years, the most prestigious competition on the national chess scene, the Italian Absolute Chess Championship returns to Turin, organized by the Società Scacchistica Torinese at the Archivio di Stato from November 26 to December 7.
For the occasion at OGR Torino, a unique match: on November 21, Marco Montemagno, entrepreneur and digital popularizer, will sit in front of a chessboard with master Pierluigi Piscopo for an unconventional chat.
Between explanations, moves and play they will explore how chess influences strategic thinking, intuition and decision making. A special opportunity to get involved in the magical world of chess, learning, but also having fun.
MARCO MONTEMAGNO
Italian entrepreneur, digital expert and media personality with more than 3.5 million followers on social media. Founder of startups like Blogosfere (bought by Il Sole24Ore) and 4books he brought to Italy events like Social Media Week and created the first Startup School. He has done TV for 7 years with the technology show on SkyTG24 Io reporter, Reporter diffuso and has been a speaker and moderator at countless events over the past 20 years. He is the author of three bestsellers, CodiceMontemagno, Lavorability and TuttoMontemagno. He has interviewed most of the leading figures in business, digital and media, including Jeff Bezos, Seth Godin and Gary Vaynerchuk. In his column 4 chiacchiere con, he meets leading figures from Italy and beyond, from Matthew McConaughey to Moby, from Brunello Cucinelli to Jovanotti to Umberto Galimberti.
PIERLUIGI PISCOPO
Professional chess player, coach, translator, author, journalist and commentator. An International Master since 2006, he has participated five times in the finals of the Italian Absolute Championship and has served as a national player on several occasions. In 2013 he moved to Corsica, as FIDE Trainer, where he contributed to the formation of a generation of great talent culminating with the current U20 World Champion, GM Marc'Andria Maurizzi. Back in Italy, he founded the Pugliese Regional School in 2021, of which he is still the director, and took on the role of lecturer at the Federal School. Very active in popularization, he gained great popularity through the distance teaching project during the Stay@Chess pandemic and as an online commentator for Chess.com. In 2022 at Le Due Torri, the manual La Siciliana-Instructions for Use was released, while the translation of the chess manga Blitz was in 2023. He has aroused great interest in the project started in January 2024 that sees him coach Marco “Monty” Montemagno in the climb toward 2000 points online.
SOCIETÀ SCACCHISTICA TORINESE
Founded in 1910, the cultural and sporting association is the point of reference for chess activity in Turin. Affiliated with the Italian Chess Federation and CONI, it hosts up to 100 players in its two large halls dedicated to tournaments. Throughout the year, it organizes a rich variety of events: from amateur tournaments to competitions valid for Elo scores, from youth championships to the renowned City of Turin International Festival. It also actively participates in city life with promotional booths at local events. Teaching is one of the fundamental pillars. They offer training on four levels, ranging from basic principles to technical advancement. They collaborate with Turin schools to spread the culture of chess among young people, through projects such as Chess & Circumscriptions and LogicaMente Chess!, involving about 400 children each year.
