Released last October, in the middle of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, Toxic Nights. Sociality, drugs and electronic music to resist through pleasure is becoming a small cult among electronic music lovers. The book explores the political potential of clubbing through a different grammar than that of traditional activism, with clubbing as micropolitical guerrilla warfare that employs bodies and pleasures as tools of struggle.
After having accompanied Cosmo in the talk tour of his last album, La Terza Estate dell'Amore – the author of Toxic Nights presents at OGR Torino his research on the world of nightlife set between Milan and Berlin. He will be joined by Stefaniavos, cristina and Luce Clandestina, three DJs from the electronic scene in Turin who, together with Gigo8931, have collaborated in making the soundtrack of one chapter of Petrilli’s book, which explores the contexts and pleasures of clubbing.
ENRICO PETRILLI
Researcher at the Department of Sociology and Social Research of the University of Milan Bicocca, he is currently researching on interstitial night spaces. He has published on national and international academic journals, and has written about clubbing, drugs, theory and excremental renaissance. He has recently published his first monograph for Meltemi Editore and together with Cirus Rinaldi, "Sociologia del male e altri scritti", a collection of essays by Edwin M. Lemert for PM edizioni.
STEFANIAVOS
Music selector originally from Apulia but for years in love with Turin, the city to which she owes her first steps into the world of music. In her sets, she juggles between syncopated beats, low frequencies and creole attitudes, while in real life she takes care of the Imbarchino river bar and hosts two monthly shows at Radio Banda Larga, Turin's web-radio community.
CRISTINA
Co-founder of the webzine, netlabel and cultural association PAYNOMINDTOUS, which focuses on experimental music both traditional and dancefloor-oriented, she is also the other half of VIBRISSE, a musical project that expresses itself through selections and productions of tracks belonging to different genres and musical contexts, in an attempt to replicate the peculiar ability of today's society to merge the timelines of past, present and future into a single, dense instant.
LUCE CLANDESTINA
Alessia Li Causi chose this moniker in 2017. Designer and disc jockey from Turin, she impersonates a liminal state between light and darkness, extroversion and introspection. A barycentric line towards slowed beats, acid music and tribalisms, heading on one side towards research within the club-culture, while on the other to live the ritual of sound to its fullest.
