Bars and codes kept us company through the history of the times; the first reference recalls the I Ching, a treatise on Chinese divination, which after all is not true divination. The code made of bars, with a leap of millennia, brings us to the binary system of Leibnitz and the algebra of Boole. Today we do without it when we see the red ray reading the product code at the supermarket checkout; the beep is superfluous. Our mind jumps immediately to Maggie Simpson, which also ended up on the cashier's desk, the display shows $ 486.52, and we will understand why. From the seriousness of patents that document the evolution of this technology to the locals of Times Square in New York, passing from rock music to science fiction, we cross the kaleidoscope of the last fifty years, an era of images and sounds.

The event is part of the "Scintille" lecture series, dedicated to the topic of technological innovation, realized thanks to the collaboration with Associazione Doppiozero founded by Dr. Marco Belpoliti. "Scintille" proposes a series of lectures led by a speaker who tells about a "spark," an idea, or a project or an invention, that has changed something in our way of living; ideas that have had a relapse in everyone's daily life. Not just great inventions or theorems or formulas, but also small objects that have changed something important in our existence over the past 70 years.

The meeting is accessible to deaf and hearing-impaired people.
