On Wednesday, 23 September 2026, audiences at OGR Torino will have the opportunity to experience Rainforest V, an immersive sound environment rooted in the research of David Tudor, a seminal figure in twentieth-century experimental electronic music, as part of To Listen To Festival.
Originating from the first Rainforest, composed by Tudor in 1968 for a choreography by Merce Cunningham, the work explores the relationship between sound, space and matter through a system in which sound is transmitted directly into objects and materials, transforming them into resonating bodies. Each element responds differently to the frequencies it receives, playing an active role in shaping the soundscape.
In the Duomo at OGR, Rainforest V, developed in 2015 by Composers Inside Electronics from the experience of Rainforest IV, takes shape as an ecosystem of objects, vibrations, circuits and electronic processes. Audiences are invited to move freely through the space, creating an ever-changing listening experience through their position and path within the environment. The work will be performed by the SMET Electroacoustic Ensemble, featuring Pietro Bottioni, Andrea Carello, Gregorio Demaria, Gabriele Ginanneschi, Francesco Maccario, Aniello Maffettone, Nicolò Oberto, Federico Padrini, Matteo Pintus, Sebastiano Risso and Lorenzo Sala.
