On Monday, 21 September at 6.30 PM, in the Duomo at OGR Torino, Vincenzo Latronico presents his new novel Una splendida rovina (A Splendid Ruin), published by Einaudi, in conversation with Il Post’s journalist Luca Misculin.
Fleeing the city, finding a ruined castle, buying it and restoring it, in order to imagine a different life: this is the dream that sets in motion the story of a young couple who invest all their savings in a manor house in a remote village in Pomerania.
As renovation work moves forward, slows down and multiplies endlessly, the novel tells the story of a tragicomic and almost impossible undertaking, populated by unlikely characters, domestic pitfalls and desires that do not always align with reality.
Una splendida rovina stages the obsessions, anxieties and aspirations of a generation grappling with the housing crisis, precarity, love, self-deception and the universal need to find one’s place in the world.
