On March 7, 2026, composer Yann Tiersen will perform at OGR Torino with a show that blends solo piano and electronics to present live his new album Rathlin from a Distance | The Liquid Hour. With his unmistakable style, the composer of the soundtrack to Amélie explores intimate and experimental soundscapes, leading the audience on a musical journey through evocative melodies and electronic atmospheres.
A Breton composer and multi-instrumentalist, Yann Tiersen has devoted most of his life to music, pushing sonic boundaries with a wide array of instruments (vintage synthesizers, modular synthesis, piano, violin, Ondes Martenot) and exploring his connection to nature and his love for Celtic languages, including Breton, his mother tongue.
His latest release, Rathlin from a Distance | The Liquid Hour, is a project divided into two distinct yet interconnected parts.
The first, Rathlin from a Distance, gathers eight piano compositions inspired by the sailing journey the artist undertook in 2023 across Ireland, the Faroe Islands, Scotland, and Cornwall. These pieces reflect introspection, communion with nature, and a search for the self within a meditative and contemplative dimension.
In contrast, The Liquid Hour represents the more daring and extroverted side of the album. It’s a weave of electronics, psychedelic grooves, and voice, in which Tiersen channels energy and a desire for social change.
The artist describes the genesis of the album as follows: “There is something transformative about being immersed in the sea. Away from the noise and weight of the world, you find yourself surrounded by the raw, untamed forces of nature – and by yourself. It’s a space where you can begin to question your beliefs, your identity, even the person you thought you were. Rathlin from a Distance was born from this experience. Each piece is tied to a place I visited, but also to a moment of meditation. It’s as if I were mapping the self, an invitation to connect and find solace in the authenticity that comes from facing the forces around us – and within us.”
