From 5 September to 23 November in Venice, The Quantum Effect, a new exhibition produced by SMAC and OGR Torino
OGR Torino announces its collaboration with
SMAC – San Marco Art Centre, the new arts centre opened in Venice in 2025, for the co-production of
The Quantum Effect, an exhibition co-curated by
Daniel Birnbaum and
Jacqui Davies, opening to the public on
5 September 2025.
The partnership is founded on a shared vision: exploring contemporary languages through
the dialogue between artistic practice and technological innovation. SMAC, located in Piazza San Marco within the Procuratie restored by David Chipperfield, is defined by an international and dynamic programme spanning art, architecture, cinema, and science.
The Quantum Effect reflects on the paradoxes of quantum theory – parallel universes, time travel, teleportation and dark matter – through works by international artists alongside references to contemporary science, cinema, and popular culture. Conceived as a cinematic narrative, the exhibition unfolds SMAC's 1,000-square-metre space as a journey that evokes Raymond Roussel's Locus Solus, with rooms opening like parallel worlds along a corridor over 80-metre-long.
Featured artists include Isa Genzken, Dara Birnbaum, Jeff Koons, Mark Leckey, Marcel Duchamp/Man Ray, among others, weaving together diverse artistic languages to generate a veritable “quantum effect” within the exhibition space.
