From 31 October 2026 to 25 February 2027, OGR Torino, the hub of Fondazione CRT, presents The Quantum Effect, a major exhibition exploring the impact of quantum theory on visual culture – cinema, popular culture and contemporary art.
Curated by Daniel Birnbaum and Jacqui Davies, the project unfolds through a group exhibition examining the paradoxes of space and time through the work of some of the most influential artists on the international scene, Cerith Wyn Evans, Isa Genzken, Tomás Saraceno, Mark Leckey, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Elaine Sturtevant and Man Ray, among others. Produced by OGR Torino and SMAC Venice (San Marco Art Centre), the exhibition is accompanied by an ambitious programme of related initiatives.
Highlights include the presentation of an infinity mirror room by Yayoi Kusama, one of the most celebrated artists of our time. Through light, reflections and endless repetition, the installation The Eternally Infinite Light of the Universe Illuminating the Quest for Truth invites visitors to engage with ideas of infinity, perception of space, and the dissolution of the boundaries between the self and the universe.
The wider Quantum Effect programme also includes a film programme, presented in collaboration with the Museo Nazionale del Cinema, featuring a selection of works that resonate with the exhibition's themes. Drawing on cinematic references that have informed the curatorial vision – including the enigmatic black monolith from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), a key element of the exhibition itself – the programme explores connections between film, perception, and speculative imaginaries. The curators also expand on these ideas in the monolith-shaped book The Quantum Effect published by Verlag Walther und Franz König, and a series of public conversations exploring the impact of quantum theory on contemporary art and culture.
