OGR Torino is set to celebrate the closing days of two art installations:
Retinal Rivalry by
Cyprien Gaillard and
Cold As You Are by
Rebecca Moccia. From Friday, January 31 to Sunday, February 2, Performing Celebration will offer an exciting lineup of performances,
DJ sets,
guided tours, and
workshops, all open to the public.Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy complimentary access to
Cyprien Gaillard's
Retinal Rivalry, curated by
Samuele Piazza, a video work, crafted with cutting-edge
3D technology and filmed at 120 fps projected in 4K which takes viewers on a mesmerizing, psychedelic journey through architecture and landscapes of contemporary Germany. Also on display is
Rebecca Moccia's
Cold As You Are, curated by
Iacopo Prinetti, a
light installation created for Luci d'Artista that blends intimate and public scenes captured with a thermal camera, which redefines the boundaries between technology and human while venturing beyond the visible spectrum. For the occasion,
Retinal Rivalry will be
open free of charge with extended hours: Friday 6 p.m.-2:30 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
Friday, January 31
The events kick off on
Friday, Jan. 31, with two performances:
from 9 to 9:30 p.m., in the OGR
Duomo,
She Pigeon by
Selin Davasse, presents a witty monologue where the author and performer plays a pigeon who looks at human beings with a mix of disgust and anger. Following this,
from 9:30 to 10:15 p.m., in
OGR's
Binario 2, Corvidae, a performative adaptation of
Marta Cuscunà's play takes the stage, featuring a flock of mechanical crows operated by the artist. These crows tackle contemporary issues —from synthetic meat production to the hypothetical demise of Donald Trump, via climate change and rising sea levels—all from the birds’ unique perspective. Both works offer an ironic lens to explore
the relationship between human and non-human, questioning established power dynamics that see human beings in a position of dominance. This thematic thread resonates both in the work of Cyprien Gaillard and Rebecca Moccia. Gaillard's
Retinal Rivalry uses a machine, a non-human element, to analyze social dynamics and constructed environments without the empathy of human perception, while Moccia's
Cold As You Are reexamines the use of thermal imaging technology to explore nuanced interactions between human and non-human subjects, transcending the visual to uncover deeper emotional and sensory layers.
To follow, in
Binario 3, from 10:15 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., a night of dynamic DJ sets will take center stage. Stefania Vos, a DJ and selector, will showcase her eclectic musical exploration, blending dancefloor rhythms, deep basslines, and Creole influences, followed by
Gigo8931, a DJ and one-half of the artistic duo frenk&fresca, who will deliver a captivating and experimental mix, seamlessly oscillating between dissonance and harmony to create an immersive atmosphere.
Saturday, February 1
On Saturday,
February 1, the day begins with activities for all ages. At
4:30 p.m.,
families with children aged 3 to 12 are invited to
Una gita in città (A trip to the city), a
creative workshop hosted by OGR Kids & ULAOP in collaboration with Arteco. Inspired by Cyprien Gaillard’s
Retinal Rivalry, the workshop will guide young participants to reflect on the interplay between humans and urban environments as they craft colorful, city-themed art pieces. At
6:00 p.m., a
guided tour curated by Arteco will offer deeper insights into the works of
Cyprien Gaillard and
Rebecca Moccia.
Both activities are free, but reservations are required via the OGR Torino website.
The evening will bring vibrant energy back to
Binario 3, featuring an exceptional DJ set by
Grant Marshall, better known as
Daddy G, co-founder of Massive Attack and a pioneer of the Bristol Sound. From hip-hop to techno, dub to house, Daddy G’s set will embody his unparalleled musical expertise. The night will open
at 8:30 p.m. with
Fire, an audiovisual performance by
Ivan Bert, Gianni Denitto, Marco Benz Gentile, FiloQ, and
Pasquale Mirra, joined by new media artist
Riccardo Akasha Franco-Loiri, and will conclude with the
closing set by the Recall roster from
11:45 p.m. Tickets are available on the OGR Torino website.
Sunday, February 2
On Sunday, February 2, OGR will host
two workshops dedicated to
Cold As You Are, part of the
Accademia della Luce public program for
Luci d'Artista.
At 3:30 p.m., families with children aged 3 to 12 can join
Siamo tutti termometri (We Are All Thermometers), curated by Arteco. This interactive session encourages participants to explore body awareness and emotions through creative activities. Later, at
5:30 p.m., adults are invited to
Percezione ed espressione (Perception and expression), a workshop blending drawing and guided meditation, curated by Giulia Capra with the participation of Sarah Zaramella.
At 6 p.m., the last
guided tour of the installations by Cyprien Gaillard and Rebecca Moccia, before they close.
Participation is free, but reservations are required via the OGR Torino website.
The weekend will close with a
music performance by
Renato Grieco, a composer, musician, and performer active in the field of sound art, author of the soundscape for Rebecca Moccia's video installation,
Cold As You Are. At 7 p.m., in the OGR
Duomo, Grieco will present
Un Ordine delle Cose, a live musical reading of excerpts from
The Order of Things, a 1958 atlas of nature that explores the world of living beings in the absence of humanity, by Jacque Brosse, a psychoanalyst and renowned expert in botany and religions.
On Sunday, throughout the day, visitors can fully enjoy the OGR experience by savoring Snodo's food & drink offerings including a special brunch available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
